Feminist Protest and Fashion Show in One from the Great Karl Lagerfeld

Girl power may be a typical line in animated films but during Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2015 show last September 30th of this year, the phrase “girl power”  evolved. Chanel’s creative director and head designer Karl Lagerfeld tapped into all his models including the new kid on the block Kendall Jenner, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, and Cara Delevingne and turned Boulevard Chanel into a feminist riot hub. This did not only made the Spring 2015 Chanel show glamorous but also eye-opening.

Photographers and media men couldn’t get enough of the models as the finale took place and the girls ramped together with banners and placards, showing very important messages the world should know. Not only did they ramped, the models literally yelled to the top of their lungs too. Delevingne was spotted leading the protest while carrying a quilted megaphone, still wearing her ramp clothing – the signature peals and tweed of Karl Lagerfeld.

Brazilian model Gisele Bunchen also made the event more fulfilled as she walked the street wearing a matching striped cardigan and booties. Kendall Jenner also made a statement though she’s new to the Chanel family. She flaunted a monochromatic attire and when the she joined in the protest, Jenner showed her body and her clothing can be two things at once.

The fake protest finale aims to uplift feminism spirit and with placards saying ‘free freedom’, ‘history is her story’, ‘women’s rights are more than all right’, ‘ladies first’, and one of the most attention-grabber ‘boys should get pregnant too’, no doubt Lagerfeld has done it again.

But of course, he doesn’t get away that easy. Apparently, the show prompted debates here and there as to whether a fashion show is a right event for such kind of feminism act. In an interview, Lagerfeld said “my mother was very much a feminist and I thought it was something right for the moment.” “I couldn’t care less if people are for or against. It’s my idea.” He added. With such statements, we can conclude that the Spring 2015 Chanel Show was a huge success – protests and all.
